In this training session, you will learn to use tools and metrics for evaluating scholarly publishing. The session covers how to find citation counts and h-indexes from different databases, and explores Impact Factors, the Publication Forum classification, and predatory journals.

Hijacked journals and other predators (in English)

Identify predatory journals and publishers that undermine the reliability of scholarly publishing. In this training session, you will learn about the practices of predatory journals, how to avoid unreliable publication channels, and also explore hijacked journals – fake websites that imitate well-known scholarly publications.

This training session introduces patent databases and their search principles. You will gain an understanding of what patents are and why they are valuable sources of information – for example, for monitoring competitors or keeping up with technological developments in your field. You will learn to search for invention-related information using both publicly available patent databases and resources acquired by University of Turku.

Learn how to plan and carry out information searches for systematic reviews. In this training session, you will learn to build an effective and reproducible search strategy, ensure the coverage and quality of your searches, and use the Covidence software to manage review materials, screen articles, and handle the selection process.

In this training, you will learn how to report your publications to the University of Turku’s research information system (UTUCRIS). The training covers the practical steps for entering publication information, the importance of parallel publishing, how to link your ORCID iD to the system, and how to make visible publications affiliated with institutions other than University of Turku.
