Learn to use patent information as a part of your research – Welcome to staff training on 25 October!

01.10.2018

Scanning patent databases for topical patent publications in your field of research is a key skill in fields related to innovations, e.g. sciences and engineering and medicine. Many technical discoveries are never published in academic literature but can be found in open patent databases.

There are several benefits in consulting patent literature when planning a research project. Ideally, patent literature search

  • helps avoid duplication of research efforts and
  • inspires ideas for further innovation and research.

Patent databases also contain valuable information on where and by whom innovations in a certain field are being made. Last but not least, patent search for prior art is required in many Business Finland and Horizon 2020 funding calls.
Patent databases for researchers is an introductory training offered by the Library on how to search for technical and stakeholder information in open patent databases Espacenet and Patentscope. After an introduction to the contents and search techniques there will be time to conduct your own searches with the help of information specialist. The training is in English.

The training will take place on Thursday, 25 October 2018 at 12.15–13.45. The venue is Turku School of Economics, Rehtorinpellonkatu 3, ATK 1 class, 1st floor (T57 on the campus map).
