New research on international scaling of SMEs from the International Business ASTRA-project
The ASTRA-project coordinated by the International Business faculty explores the scalability of international business.
The ASTRA research team, including project researcher Jani Mäkelä and professors Niina Nummela and Eriikka Paavilainen-Mäntymäki have published research on how Finnish small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) navigate the challenges of international scaling. Based on research conducted in 12 SMEs in manufacturing, knowledge-intensive and service industries, they summarise the challenges related to scalability of offering – which is the prerequisite for successful scaling – and the development of business processes which is needed for rapid international expansion. The authors are grateful for the financial support of Finnish Foundation for Economic Education, without which this research would not have been possible. For the full report of the study, see link.
