AIIS is a 3-year Erasmus+ project funded by the European Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) and led by University of Salamanca.

AIIS concortium partners are University of Salamanca, Spain; University of Mons, Belgium; University of Thessaly, Greece; Turku University of Applied Sciences and the University of Turku. Also, companies Ciber, MEUS, SciFY and Xebia take part in the project.

The main objective of the AIIS is to contribute to the improvement of European higher education provision in the field of medicine by providing a comprehensive course for medical students in which AI, innovation, intrapreneurship and soft skills will play a key role, and which will be widely disseminated for integration into university curricula.

The AIIS course has been designed to be interactive, practical and collaborative, encouraging students to work together and think critically. The AIIS course was piloted in the autumn semester 2022 in all five higher education institutes in the consortium.

During the transnational meeting, the consortium members carried out course validation procedure under the leadership of the University of Turku, which was responsible for the validation of the AIIS course.

In addition to validating the course, the meeting also discussed the future of the AIIS course and the dissemination of the results of the project.

The University of Turku is responsible for the validation of the AIIS course. It has also contributed to the AI related modules providing expertise on digital pathology and computational biomedicine: special emphasis on machine learning and AI in imaging.

The University of Turku offered the pilot course to its students and acted as mentors and tutors for the pilot course during the Autumn semester of 2022.

The work packages under the responsibility of the University of Turku are led by Leena Strauss, Adjunct Professor in experimental endocrinology in the Institute of Biomedicine.
