University of Turku Establishes Degree Programme in Namibia
The University of Turku will establish the Master’s Degree Programme in Software Engineering in co-operation with the University of Namibia next year. Simultaneously, the University strengthens its position on the growing education market of Africa.
In its meeting on 24 August, the University Board decided on the establishment of a new degree programme in English in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the Master’s Degree Programme in Software Engineering. It is the very first entire degree programme of the University of Turku that will be taught elsewhere than in Finland.
The education will take place on Windhoek campus, and partly as distance education from Turku produced by the Department of Future Technologies.
– The aim is to offer education of just as high quality in Namibia as in Finland. The student services, for example, will be planned so that they correspond to the services offered by the University of Turku in Finland. The education develops the co-operation with the universities in Namibia and strengthens the foothold of the University of Turku on the rapidly growing education market of Africa, Rector Kalervo Väänänen says.
The number of study places for the education is 25 students and the tuition fee is €12,000. The education is planned to start in February 2019.
Professor of Interaction Design Erkki Sutinen will help in initiating the education in Namibia.
