Call for Applications
The Turku Collegium for Science, Medicine and Technology now invites applications for four (4) postdoctoral researcher positions at one of the departments at the University of Turku, including Turku School of Economics. Successful applicants may begin their employment on 1.9.2027 at the earliest, 1.12.2027 at the latest. The duration of the positions offered is three years.
The candidates considered must have outstanding potential and established excellence in research. Applicants are also expected to have attained other academic achievements. The Postdoctoral Researcher position is intended to support career progression, and an individual may be appointed to this position only once. Applicants who have previously held a Postdoctoral Researcher position at TCSMT are not eligible to apply for the position again. Applicants may apply for either a Postdoctoral Researcher or a Collegium Researcher position, but not both. The same applicant will not be considered for both position types.
Persons appointed must have completed their doctoral degree no more than five years before the application deadline. Applicants who completed their doctoral degree more than five years before the application deadline may be considered only for special reasons, such as pregnancy or parental leave, childcare leave while caring for a child (biological or adopted) under three years of age, partial childcare leave, military or non-military service, or long-term illness (of the applicant or a close relative), provided that these circumstances have resulted in a career break. Such career breaks will be taken into account when determining the five-year eligibility period following the doctoral degree. If you wish to invoke any of these special circumstances, please provide the relevant details in your CV. Persons appointed must have completed their doctoral degree by the end of the application period.
Call for Applications
The Turku Collegium for Science, Medicine and Technology is seeking four (4) ambitious early career researchers to start independent research work at one of the departments at the University of Turku, including Turku School of Economics. The positions are funded for three years. Researchers may apply for a two-year extension. Any extension is subject to a separate application and the decision of the Board. Successful applicants may begin their employment on 1.9.2027 at the earliest, 1.12.2027 at the latest.

The Collegium Researcher position is intended to support career progression, and an individual may be appointed to this position only once. Applicants who have previously held a Collegium Researcher position at TCSMT are not eligible to apply for the position again. Applicants may apply for either a Postdoctoral Researcher or a Collegium Researcher position, but not both. The same applicant will not be considered for both position types.
An optimal candidate has received their doctoral degree certificate a minimum of three years and a maximum of nine years before the submission deadline for applications. Applicants who have completed their doctoral degree longer ago than the period mentioned above can be considered only for special reasons (pregnancy or parental leave, childcare leave while caring for a child (biological or adopted) under 3 years of age, partial childcare leave, military or nonmilitary service, or long-term illness (personal or close relative’s), if these reasons have caused a long-term career break. The special reasons will be taken into account for the period following the doctoral degree. If you wish to invoke any of these special circumstances, please provide the relevant details in your CV.
Particular attention will be paid to the quality of the candidate’s research proposal and international research experience (significant post-doctoral research conducted abroad is essential). Attention is also paid to how the research of the applicant relates to the collaborative themes of research at the University of Turku. The multidisciplinary nature of the research activity is considered an advantage.

Processing of applications starts immediately after the end of the application period and therefore late applications i.e. applications sent after the application deadline or changes made to applications after the application deadline will not be considered.
In the application form, applicants are asked to provide a link to their ORCID iD profile, to indicate the preferred host Faculty (incl. department or unit) at the University of Turku, and to state their research field and their international research connections.
TCSMT Postdoctoral positions

Applicants are asked to indicate in their application the research group and research infrastructure relevant to their proposed research and are encouraged to contact a potential host before applying. A Letter of Support is not required at the application stage. Candidates invited for an interview will be required to submit a Letter of Support from the host department at the second stage of the recruitment process.
TCSMT Junior Group Leader Positions

Applicants are encouraged to establish contact with a relevant department already at the application stage. Candidates invited for an interview will be required to demonstrate the engagement and support of the host department.
Note! You do not need to attach an academic portfolio to your application, even if the application system may suggest so.
Applications meeting the formal requirements will be evaluated by the TCSMT Board and exyernal evaluators. Top applicants will be interviewed. Successful applicants will be selected on the basis of academic excellence.
TCSMT Postdoctoral positions
The Board of TCSMT will fill the positions offered based on an international call for applications. The selection will be based primarily on the applicant’s research plan and scientific merits. The top candidates will be interviewed. Particular attention will be paid to candidates’ international research experience. A successful candidate should have a connection to research conducted at the University of Turku. Candidates are expected to be able to join an existing research group, or to work under the supervision of a senior researcher at the University of Turku. Attention is also paid to how the research of the applicant relates to the collaborative themes of research at the University of Turku. The multidisciplinary nature of the research activity is considered an advantage.

TCSMT Junior Group Leader Positions
Applications for the TCSMT Junior Group Leader / Collegium Researcher positions will be evaluated in three stages.
The following categories will be evaluated during the review process:
1) suitability to the position (potential for independent research work, stage of research career)
2) scientific competence
3) international experience, research collaborations
4) quality of research plan
5) overall score
