Special call for Applications from scholars affected by the crisis in Ukraine

The Turku Collegium for Science, Medicine and Technology (TCSMT) wishes to assist scholars who have been affected by the current crisis in the Ukraine and who are seeking a temporary assignment to continue research outside Ukraine.

We invite applications for Collegium Researcher and/or Postdoctoral Researcher position(s) for a maximum 6-month period starting 1 June 2022 at the earliest, 1 August 2022 at the latest (subject to authorization by relevant Finnish authorities). TCSMT welcomes applications from all disciplines within Science, Medicine and Technology.

Please note that this call is restricted to scholars who have been displaced by the current crisis in Ukraine, preferably those who have applied for a Scholars at Risk status. All applicants must have a PhD degree.

The application deadline is 17 May at 23.59 (Finnish time, GMT +3). Late applications cannot be submitted and applications cannot be completed after the application deadline.

Please note that once the application is submitted, applicants may still make adjustments to the application up to the deadline.

In the application form, applicants are asked to indicate the preferred host Faculty (incl. department or unit) at the University of Turku, to describe the scientific position held before being displaced by the crisis in Ukraine, and to provide a link to their ORCID iD profile.

The application must contain the following pdf-documents written in English:

Curriculum vitae (maximum 2 pages)

Doctoral degree certificate (if unavailable please supply a copy of official confirmation that the PhD has been passed) *

List of publications (with max. 5 most important ones indicated)

A personal statement or motivation letter (maximum 2 pages) containing a description of your scientific background and research interests, and how these may relate to research conducted at the University of Turku.

 If applicable, a copy of the email confirming that the applicant has applied for a Scholars at Risk status **

* Doctoral degree certificate: Applicants should upload a copy of their doctoral certificate. If the original degree certificate is not written in English, Finnish or Swedish an official translation in English must also be submitted. If a copy the PhD certificate is not available, please upload details of your PhD (name of the degree, date, name of University that awarded the PhD).

** Application for Scholars at Risk status: This call is only open to scholars who have been displaced by the crisis in Ukraine, preferably those who have applied to Scholars at Risk (SAR) for scholars at risk status.

Processing and reviewing of applications

Applications meeting the formal requirements will be evaluated by the TCSMT Board. Top applicants will be interviewed. Successful applicants will be selected on the basis of academic excellence.

It is anticipated that final decisions about successful applicants will be made at the end of May.
