Deans at the Faculty of Social Sciences
The Dean of the Faculty is professor Elina Mainela-Arnold. The Vice deans are professor Juha Räikkä with responsibility for research, professor Johanna Kallio with responsibilities for education and learning and professor Markku Jokisipilä with responsibilities for alumni and social interaction. In the absence of Dean Mainela-Arnold Vice dean Räikkä acts as his deputy.

Turku Institute for Advanced Studies - Board of Management
The TIAS board is responsible for organizing the application and review processes together with other TIAS activities. The board consists of representatives from all five TIAS faculties of the University of Turku.
Department of Philosophy, Contemporary History and Political Science
The disciplinary units of Philosophy, Contemporary History and Political Science merged on 1 January 2016. The department also includes the Centre for East Asian Studies (CEAS), the John Morton Center for North American Studies (JMC), the Public Choice Research Centre (PCRC), the Finnish Centre for Democracy Studies and the Centre for Parliamentary Studies.
Neuroscience Sparks Discussion on Free Will
Neuroscience is increasing our knowledge of the functioning and structure of the human nervous system at a quickening pace, but at the same time it forces people to consider the motives of their actions and the limits of free will. At the University of Turku, challenges from neuroscience are met with a project combining philosophy, law and psychiatry.
