Fadwa Gardani

Fadwa – Master's student in Cyber Security

Meet Fadwa Gardani, a current Master's degree student at the University of Turku and an UTUambassador 2021-2022!

"Hey, I am Fadwa and I am currently in my first year of MDP in Information and Communication Technology, Cyber Security.

Cyber security can be considered a broad practice, so I appreciate how the program approaches it in multidisciplinary fashion, the courses are based on current research, and we get to explore both the technological and theoretical aspects in the field. I also like the fact that we can pursue different interests alongside our core major if we want to.

Turku is a lovely city, and it was surprising how easily I felt at home when I first got here. I especially enjoy taking long walks, wandering in the city and discovering new places along the way."

Fadwa's study experience

Tell more about your programme and why you chose it!

I studied applied mathematics for a while and then focused more specifically on cryptography. Based on that, I decided that I wanted to get a more global view on information security especially since it's such an interesting field and it has become a big part of our lives. And that's how I came to join my current programme!

What has been the most interesting course for you so far?

I've enjoyed many courses so far. I have recently finished a course focusing on the human element in information security. I have thoroughly enjoyed this one since it highlighted the number of ways a person can behave in regards to their security online and the variety of factors that could be responsible for their actions.

What are your future career plans?

So far, I'm keeping an open mind regarding my future plans. I'm interested in many topics at the moment and I'm on the lookout for opportunities to learn more, whether in an academic setting or not.
