Collaboration at the Department of Finnish Literature

The departments in which literature is taught in Finland are small, and, therefore, we frequently co-operate with each other.

Every spring, literary scholars from across the country gather for a national conference organised by the Finnish Literary Research Society, and universities also take turns in hosting the Finnish main publication of the field, the journal Avain. Furthermore, it is the rule rather than the exception that all bigger literary research initiatives and projects employ researchers from more than one Finnish university. Our staff also teaches abroad regularly, often through an exchange programme hosted by the Finnish National Agency for Education.

Finnish Literature works for the good of literature even outside the academic world. We are at the service of all readers for example in Studia Generalia lectures organised by the municipal Vaski libraries, and we also co-operate in various ways with the Finnish Literature Society and the Society of Swedish Literature in Finland.
