Dissertation: A Foreign Newcomer on the Market Can Effect the Development of the Whole Field of Business in a Transition Economy

In her dissertation, M. Sc. Elina Pelto examined the effects a direct foreign investment has on the local companies and business networks. The empirical part of her dissertation investigates how Fazer Bakeries established its operations in St. Petersburg’s bakery markets.

According to the dissertation research of Elina Pelto, due to intra-industry dependencies, a new foreign entry on the markets affects also the companies not in touch with the newcomer. In her dissertation, Pelto examines the effects a direct foreign investment has on local companies and business networks in Russia.

The dissertation describes the changes a foreign market newcomer causes in local companies. Pelto also identifies the mechanisms that spread the external effects amongst local players.
