The courses are part of the ReConnect China project involving Europe's leading experts on China. Registration for the first course is now open.

The ReConnect China online courses start in January–February 2024. The courses will give the participants an insight into Chinese politics and society as well as EU-China relations, among other things.

The Centre for East Asian Studies (CEAS) at the University of Turku is in charge of planning and executing the courses. It has previously organised four MOOC courses in Finland, the positive feedback from which inspired the organisers to offer new China courses to an international audience for the first time.

“It is great that CEAS has been given the responsibility of providing basic information about China to European students and the larger public. As China becomes increasingly important in the global economy and politics, it is necessary that research-based, flexible basic courses on China are available to everyone,” says University Lecturer Outi Luova from CEAS.

The first course of the spring is an introduction to Chinese politics, and registration for the course is now open. The second course of the spring will start on 12 February. The participants can complete the free online courses at their own pace. Students of the University of Turku who log into the course area with their UTU credentials will receive three credits when they have completed the course.

The courses are part of the ReConnect China research project that aims at filling the knowledge gap on China in Europe. In addition, the project aims to update and promote factual information on modern China and its social, cultural, political and economic features.

In addition to the Centre for East Asian Studies at the University of Turku, the project involves Europe’s leading experts on China from 14 universities and centres of excellence.
