Place a hold for Ebook Central title in use

05.12.2023

There is a new wait list feature in ProQuest’s Ebook Central ebook database. This gives you a chance to place a hold if one-user or three-user book is in use.

The ProQuest’s Ebook Central ebook database contains a large number of ebooks with unlimited user access when placing a hold is not necessary. However, part of the books are only available for one or three concurrent readers.

This is how to place a hold

When all copies of Ebook Central's ebooks are in use, you will see the option to place a hold. By clicking the “place hold” icon you can add yourself to the wait list. You can also see how many other people are currently on the wait list. At the same time, you will be able to add an email address to receive the information when the book is available. This address may be different from the one on your account. Once you have confirmed the hold, the status of the title will show “hold placed”. You may cancel the hold by clicking the “cancel hold” icon.

Once the book is available, you will receive email containing a link to the book. This email message will tell you the amount of time you have to claim your hold before it will be transferred to the following customer on the line. In your Ebook Central bookshelf you will see that the hold is available and how soon you should claim it. You can still at this point cancel the hold if you don’t need the book.

The library monitors the wait list and considers whether it’s necessary to broaden the usage options if possible.
