Marjo Kaartinen, Rector of the University of Turku, has been appointed as the first-ever President of the European Campus of City-Universities (EC2U) Alliance on 19 May.
Rector Kaartinen was appointed as the President of the EC2U Alliance at the EC2U Forum organised in Turku on 19 May 2026.
The duties of the President of the Alliance include strengthening the Alliance's position and visibility. The President acts as the chair of the Alliance’s governing bodies and represents the Alliance to stakeholders with the Coordinator General when necessary.
“EC2U Alliance is a great example of effective and productive European cooperation. I am accepting this position with a strong commitment to strengthening the Alliance's ability to develop high-quality research and education in cooperation with our partner universities,” says Rector Kaartinen.
The EC2U Forum in Turku brings together 460 participants from the partner universities, as well as representatives of the cities and other stakeholders from across Europe to exchange ideas and develop solutions to key societal challenges.
