15.06.2016

The SWiPE - Smart Work in Platform Economy consortium led by Professor Anne Kovalainen (TSE Entrepreneurship) has been selected by the Strategic Research Council of the Academy of Finland to participate in the “Skilled Employees – Successful Labour Market” call. The consortium, directed from the University of Turku, was granted 1 526 000 euro by the Academy of Finland to pursue the project.

The SWiPE project looks at how global trends bring into society new work processes, technologies as well as skills and qualification requirements. SWiPE will identify how these new trends trigger new types of self-employment, non-standard employee contracting and entrepreneurial forms of work. The aim of the project is to analyse global transformations of work through platforms and technology in order to support and enable renewal in the Finnish economy and society.

“Funding from the Academy of Finland SRC programme strengthens the profile of the University of Turku in research on the information society and economy as well as in knowledge based entrepreneurship”, notes vice-rector Kalle-Antti Suominen.

The consortium consists of the University of Turku two independent research centres, the Research Institute of the Finnish Economy (ETLA) and the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (TTL) as well as other partners.
