Title of Docent to PhD Hannakaisa Niela-Vilén

The Title of Docent has been granted to PhD Hannakaisa Niela-Vilén on 18.2.2021.

"My research area in nursing science covers maternity care focusing on pregnant and postpartum women, foetuses and infants as well as families. Many of my research projects have concerned parent-infant closeness, breastfeeding and breastfeeding support in both full-term and preterm infants and their families. Both emotional and physical closeness as well as breastfeeding are strongly connected and inseparable part of wellbeing during early life and parenthood.

In addition, remote monitoring during pregnancy and the postpartum period is another central part of my research. With remote monitoring, we aim to engage pregnant women in their own care and, by implication, support family-centred and person-centred care. In collaboration with researchers from future technologies, medicine and public health we have developed and tested the possibilities of smartwatches and smart rings to follow physical activity, sleep and heart rate in pregnant and postpartum women." describes docent, PhD Hannakaisa Niela-Vilén.
