Students Explored Indian Schools and Culture

Four students from the Rauma unit of the Department of Teacher Education travelled to India for two weeks. They returned with versatile research material and gained many new experiences.

Large Rat, Caramba Wasp, Felting Wasp and Monitor Lizard – New Animal Species Attract Attention

The new animal species discovered by the researchers of the Biodiversity Unit at the University of Turku have attracted worldwide attention and interest. In 2015 and 2016, the researchers formally described, for example, the Rattus detentus rat, the Clistopyga caramba wasp, the Varanus semotus monitor lizard and a wasp that felts spider silk. The new and unique species have quickly become some of the most discussed new animal discoveries in international media and popular blogs.

International Students Read in Finnish to Seniors as Part of Finland 100 Centenary Celebration

– It is such a great feeling when I get the chance to talk to Finnish people, Ezter Ujvari from Hungary describes her experiences after reading a cook book in plain language to Sirkka Katajisto at Ruusukortteli assisted living residence. They were brought together by the national Minä luen sinulle (I read to you) campaign week that encouraged the students of the Finnish language at the Language Centre of the University of Turku to read and talk to elderly people and the mentally disabled.

University of Turku Confers 12 Honorary Doctors

The University of Turku confers 12 honorary doctors in the Ceremonial Conferment of Doctoral Degrees that is organised in May. They will be conferred as honorary doctors either for their scientific merits, collaboration with the University of Turku or because of their impact on society.
