The new total-body PET scanner has been introduced at the Turku PET Centre. This new generation of medical imaging devices offers novel methods for studying diseases that affect the entire body, not only a single organ. Such diseases include diabetes, coronary artery disease, and multiple sclerosis. For the patient, being able to use the new device means a lower amount of radiation and a shorter scanning time.

The European Commission has officially established Euro-BioImaging – which provides life scientists with open access to a broad range of technologies and resources in biological and biomedical imaging – as a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC). Imaging technologies have a central role in driving fundamental research and applied innovations in both biological and biomedical research.
Researchers from the Turku Bioscience Centre have found changes in molecules in the blood that might be new markers of type 1 diabetes. The new findings may help understand the early pathogenesis of the disease.
