Researchers at the University of Turku and Turku University Hospital in Finland have shown that bodily sensations related to emotions are altered by the neurological disorder Parkinson's disease.
A new study conducted at the University of Turku shows that patients with a schizophrenia spectrum disorder have an increased risk of Parkinson’s disease later in life. The increased risk may be due to alterations in the brain’s dopamine system caused by dopamine receptor antagonists or neurobiological effects of schizophrenia.
A recent study from Finland reports that a protein kinase called LRRK2 is hyperactive in skin samples from Parkinson’s disease patients which leads to a decrease in protein synthesis. This new finding could help in the development of new treatments for Parkinson’s disease.
