Green Light Stage for Coronavirus in Force on All Campuses

17.06.2021

The traffic light model for the coronavirus situation defines the level of safety measures at the University of Turku. At the moment, all the University’s campuses are on the green light stage.

The coronavirus management team of the University of Turku has decided that the transfer to the baseline of the coronavirus epidemic in Southwest Finland enables the implementation of the green light stage on the University’s Turku campus. The Pori and Rauma campuses transferred to the green light stage earlier in June.
The traffic light stage corresponding to the regional epidemic situation is in force at the research stations and branch offices.

University personnel still works mainly remotely in those work tasks where it is possible. The maximum number of participants in small group contact teaching is 50 people on the green light stage.

The maximum number of people in individual indoor spaces and events organised indoors is 50 people on the green light stage. In events organised outdoors, the maximum number of participants and the safety measures are determined according to the authorities’ instructions.

Unnecessary close contacts must be avoided in the University’s facilities. If close contacts cannot be avoided, face masks are used if the regional authority recommends it.

Aiming for Controlled Return to Campus in the Autumn

At the beginning of the autumn semester, personnel continues to work mainly remotely in those work tasks where it is possible, similar to the spring semester. Meetings are held mainly remotely. Organising meetings in person with the immediate work community is possible when observing the maximum number of participants in accordance with the traffic light stage that is currently in force. In the meetings organised in person with the immediate work community, the personnel must also have the option to participate remotely.

In the autumn, the University aims to return to contact teaching in stages. This requires that the teaching staff and the administrative and support personnel whose work tasks involve assisting in teaching arrangements can work on campus. In April, the coronavirus management team of the University of Turku outlined the teaching arrangements for autumn 2021.

The University units can organise, for example, unit meetings outdoors while observing safety measures already before the summer holiday season. However, participation in these kinds of events should be voluntary.  Units’ events can be organised indoors on the green light stage of the traffic light model, and, even then, the safety measures and restrictions of the green light stage have to be observed.

The University is preparing an exit plan for the exceptional circumstances caused by the coronavirus. The aim is to publish the plan at the beginning of the autumn semester once the picture of the general coronavirus situation in the autumn is more accurate. In addition to the exit plan, the remote work policy pre-dating the pandemic will be reviewed and updated.
