The University of Turku was ranked among the 401-500 best universities in the 2025 Academic Ranking of World Universities.
The results of the 2025 Shanghai Ranking, i.e. the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), were published on August 15, 2025. The University of Turku was ranked in the 401–500 category, which is the same position it held in 2024.
Among Finnish universities, the University of Turku shared second place with Aalto University and the University of Oulu. The University of Helsinki was the highest-ranked Finnish university, achieving an overall ranking of 94. Harvard University secured the top position in the ranking.
The Academic Ranking of World Universities assesses over 2,500 universities annually and publishes a list of the top 1,000. ARWU ranks the world's best universities based on six indicators. The ranking is influenced by factors such as Nobel and Fields prizes awarded to staff and alumni, the number of highly cited researchers, and the number of articles published in Nature and Science magazines.
The results of the Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects will be published later this year.
