The latest Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2026 placed the University of Turku among the world's best universities in several academic subjects. The ranking included approximately 2,000 universities from around the world.
The Shanghai Ranking has produced subject-specific university rankings since 2009. It is one of the most closely followed university rankings in the world. The 2026 subject rankings included around 2,000 universities and assessed them across 57 subjects in life sciences, medical sciences, natural sciences, engineering and social sciences.
The University of Turku was ranked among the world's best universities in 17 academic subjects. Two of its subjects ranked among the top 100: dentistry at 26th place and nursing at 76th–100th place.
The rankings are based on indicators including the research quality and impact of the participating universities, international collaboration, and prestigious academic awards. Subject rankings cannot be directly compared with one another, as the evaluation criteria carry different weightings for each subject and the number of universities assessed varies by subject.
