The Sustainability Report contains examples of the University's activities from the perspectives of environmental, social, administrative, and cultural responsibility. The strategic goal of the University of Turku is to expand its positive impact and build a sustainable future.

“Our positive impact stems particularly from the research we produce and the professionals and experts we educate. Our multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach increases the ability to find solutions to complex problems. We are also strongly committed to the principles of open science and research, which helps us to share knowledge openly with society," says Marjo Kaartinen, Rector of the University of Turku.

According to Development Specialist Petteri Siika-aho and Specialist in Sustainable Development Jutta Mäkinen, who worked on the Sustainability Report, it was easy to find interesting examples of work that generates value beyond the University’s stakeholders and contributes to society at large.

“For example, the BIODIFUL research project combines scientific and business expertise, and through active business collaboration, the combination will directly benefit the development of responsible business.

The report includes numerous examples from different disciplines and combinations of disciplines, as well as a range of indicators. The examples are also linked to the goals of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This is the first time the report has been produced and it will be updated annually.
