Researchers developed a new method for measuring the radius of neutron stars which helps them to understand what happens to the matter inside the star under extreme pressure.
The French government has given Louis Clerc, Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Turku, the Chevalier decoration of the Ordre des Palmes académiques, the national order of France for distinguished academics, on 13 October 2017. Professor Clerc received the recognition for his contributions to the cultural relations between Finland and France.

An international research group led by Postdoctoral Researcher Erkki Kankare has discovered a new population of extremely bright explosions in distant galaxies. These may be the brightest supernova explosions ever observed. Several researchers from the University of Turku are involved in the study.
