Turku Centre for Medieval and Early Modern Studies (TUCEMEMS)

The Turku Centre for Medieval and Early Modern Studies (TUCEMEMS) is a multidisciplinary research centre funded by the University of Turku. The centre provides support for and advances research activities examining different historical time periods, ranging from late antiquity to the latter part of the 18th  century.

TUCEMEMS unites researchers from across the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Social Sciences as well as the Faculty of Law. The members of TUCEMEMS represent a large range of different subject areas, including archaeology, philology, philosophy, history, history of law, art history, literary studies, and religious studies.

TUCEMEMS is led by an executive board of teachers and researchers who focus on Pre- and Early Modern studies at the University of Turku. The centre actively collaborates with Finnish as well as international associations, centres, and institutions.

TUCEMEMS was founded in 2005 in response to the growing research interest into the Medieval and Early Modern periods. The research centre was founded by Marjo Kaartinen, Sanna-Kaisa Tanskanen, Matti Peikola, Tom Linkinen, and Eva Johanna Holmberg.

TUCEMEMS and its activities are openly available to everyone interested in them.
