The University of Turku ranks in the top 1.9% out of 20,531 universities worldwide according to the 2023 edition of the outcome-based Global 2000 list by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR).

The CWUR Rating System evaluates universities and colleges on four measures: education, employability, faculty, and research. This year, the University of Turku rose to the 387th place, marking an improvement from the previous year when the University was ranked 395th. The ranking featured altogether 10 universities from Finland, out of which the University of Turku was preceded by the University of Helsinki (126th) and Aalto University (350th). The University of Turku was the only Finnish university in the ranking that improved its placement from the previous year.

The University’s strengths in the ranking were especially the quality and influence of research. Publications in reputable and influential journals and the amount of citations they gained, as well as recognition received by the researchers were among the factors that affected the University’s placement in ranking as they indicate a high quality of research.

CWUR is headquartered in the United Arab Emirates. It has ranked universities since 2012. In the first years, CWUR ranked the top 100 global universities but today CWUR ranks the top 2,000 global universities out of over 20,000 universities worldwide. CWUR ranking of global universities does not rely on surveys and university data submissions.
