The latest issue of the Baltic Rim Economies (BRE) review was published on the 29th of May introducing articles on current topics concerning the Baltic Sea region.
Common and rare SORLA single nucleotide polymorphisms have been associated with the development of Alzheimer’s disease. So far, SORLA has been mainly studied in neurons, but the new study focused on the role of SORLA in cancer cells. Led by Academy Professor Johanna Ivaska, the research group observed that SORLA was highly expressed in HER2 positive cancers. Removing SORLA from cancer cells severely impaired the oncogenic fitness of HER2 positive cancers.
The Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions of the Horizon 2020 programme offer researchers opportunities to work around the world in different universities. On 20–21 May, the University of Turku organised a workshop for international applicants which focused on applying for the Individual Fellowship funding.
