Watch video: How does dental anxiety affect our health?

05.11.2025

Fear of dentists can have a major impact on individual health, but the effects are also felt on the level of public health. Avoiding dental treatment can lead not only to gum disease, but also to general health problems such as cardiovascular disease. Dental anxiety is a major barrier for accessing dental care.

On the video, Senior Researcher Mika Kajita talks about her research in community dentistry which focuses on the impact of dental anxiety on public health. Kajita is a postdoctoral researcher in the SYS-LIFE programme (Systemic Approaches to Improve Cardiometabolic and Brain Health during Lifespan) of the University of Turku, which is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action for researcher training jointly funded by the University of Turku and the EU for 2023–2028.
