The University of Turku has taken a strong and respected pioneering role in the development of research and responsible assessment of researchers both nationally and internationally. Commitment to the More Than Our Rank initiative is part of the development work related to responsible assessment at the University of Turku.
The More Than Our Rank initiative is an initiative launched by the International Network of Research Management Societies (INORMS) in 2022. It can be committed to by academic organizations that recognize the limitations of the indicators used, and who feel that the university rankings do not fully reflect their strengths or institutional mission.
Commitment to the More Than Our Rank initiative is an important part of developing the responsible assessment of research at the University of Turku.
– The University of Turku is a pioneer in developing the responsible assessment of research and we also want to commit to more diverse acknowledging and recognition of institutional success than
is indicated by various university rankings. The commitment to the More Than Our Rank initiative is also in line with what the European University Association wants to promote, says Rector Jukka Kola.
Kola is also an EUA Council member and is currently attending the Council meeting in Brussels on 26–27 October.
As a national pioneer, the University of Turku has developed responsible assessment of researchers and research in Finland and has drawn up a policy for responsible assessment that has received positive attention nationally and internationally. The responsible assessment policy implements the University of Turku Strategy 2021–2030 and is an opening for active renewal of research and researcher assessment. Commitment to the More Than Our Rank initiative is an important part of the operational programme related to the assessment policy.
