Ukrainian professor Olga Osokina has seen the consequences of the Russian full-scale invasion with her own eyes. As a visiting professor, she helps the University of Turku to build understanding of the mental health of children and adolescents in war-torn Ukraine.
The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Turku organises a ceremonial conferment of doctoral degrees on 25–27 May 2023. Five honorary doctors will be conferred in the ceremony. When neutron stars collide, they produce a violent explosion. Data from the only well observed collision show that the explosion was perfectly spherical, completely contrary to expectations. How this is possible remains a mystery, but the discovery may provide a new key to fundamental physics and to measuring the age of the Universe. The discovery was made by an international collaboration led by astrophysicists from the University of Copenhagen and including researchers from the University of Turku. The research has just been published in the journal Nature.
Anthocyanins in plants have properties that reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, shows a new review article from the Food Sciences unit of the University of Turku, Finland. Anthocyanins are red, purple and blue pigments found in fruits, vegetables, and tubers.
In its meeting on 14 February, the University Board of the University of Turku approved the principles of a co-operation agreement made with the City of Rauma regarding the Rauma campus. The final decision on the involvement of the City of Rauma is made by the City Council of Rauma.

In two studies, researchers at the University of Turku have found that carbon sequestration and plant resilience as well as forage pasture yield can be increased through key adjustments in agricultural management.
