The international and multilingual master’s degree programme European Languages, Cultures and Societies in Contact trains language professionals for a multilingual and multicultural world of work. At the University of Turku, the major is either French or German. The applying period is April 1st–May 31st.
New Economies of Artistic Labour – from Entrepreneurship to Sustainable Collectives is inviting artists to write about their experiences on work and everyday life in Finland. The project aims at discovering how artists make a living, how the artistic labour overlaps with other types of labour and the everyday life, and how artistic expertise is accumulated.
Turku Institute for Advanced Studies (TIAS) has appointed five new postdoctoral fellows to three-year positions, which commence on 1 january 2021. Following a process of international peer review, the successful candidates were chosen from a field of 286 applications for the five positions available (a success rate of 1.7%). They will join an institute which is committed to interdisciplinary working and the development of top-level researchers.
Aboagora – Between Arts and Sciences is an annual symposium, bringing together various aspects of academia, the arts, and society. This year, Aboagora dives into the world of water. The Symposium will be held both at the Sibelius Museum as well as online on 19–21 August, 2020. Registration opens on 15 June.
The aim of academic writing in the Finnish language is to develop the student's communication skills and to support the student to develop into an expert. The goal of academic writing studies is for students to achieve the literary skills needed in their studies, working life, and in their own discipline.
The Ministry of Education and Culture has authorised the University of Turku to expand its technology education. The University will widen its educational range by adding Master’s Degree Programmes in Mechanical Engineering and Material Technology to its pre-existing Degree Programmes in Biotechnology and Information Technology. In addition, the University of Turku was granted educational responsibility in the Chinese language.
Composer, Professor Emeritus of Musicology Mikko Heiniö has composed the anniversary work entitled Syvyyden yllä tuuli (Wind above the Depths) of the University of Turku’s centenary that will be celebrated next year. The composition will be performed for the first time at the University of Turku’s Anniversary Celebration in February 2020.
The Turku Centre for Medieval and Early Modern Studies (TUCEMEMS) is a multidisciplinary research centre funded by the University of Turku. The centre provides support for and advances research activities examining different historical time periods, ranging from late antiquity to the latter part of the 18th century.
Turku Institute for Advanced Studies (TIAS) strengthens its position as a leading multidisciplinary research unit in humanities and social sciences after recruiting new researchers, ten of whom started their work at the beginning of 2019.
