Children, young people and learning is one of the five multidisciplinary themes in the strategy of the University of Turku. Research related to this theme is undertaken across the university’s many faculties, and it is internationally highly recognized. Particular areas of strength are the wellbeing of children and young people and the role of the welfare state, learning environments, and trends in population change and inequality.

There are two research flagships linked to this theme at the University of Turku: INVEST – Inequalities, Interventions and the New Welfare State and EDUCA – Education for the Future. These and the university’s other research related to the theme produce up-to-date knowledge and solutions in order to foster the wellbeing of children and young people, reduce social inequalities, develop the welfare state, and ensure the skills necessary in the future. Research infrastructures, large-scale data, and strong methodological expertise provide a solid foundation for multidisciplinary research and the development of scalable interventions.
