Finnish universities are strengthening co-operation in postgraduate education by opening up more opportunities for doctoral researchers to expand their expertise. The University of Turku, Aalto University, University of Helsinki, University of Eastern Finland, University of Lapland, Hanken School of Economics, University of the Arts Helsinki, and Åbo Akademi University have signed an agreement that will allow doctoral researchers to pursue postgraduate studies at different universities.

The University of Turku doctoral programmes have an open call for approximately 70 fixed-term doctoral researcher positions with an employment contract. The application period runs from 29 August to 12 September 2025. Both early-stage and more advanced doctoral researchers can be selected for the positions.

Pauliina Moilanen, a doctoral researcher at the Institute of Dentistry and the Finnish Doctoral Programme in Oral Sciences, won the Three Minute Thesis competition of the University of Turku. Moilanen will represent the University of Turku in the international 3MT competition organised by the Coimbra Group for European universities. 

The University of Turku has been awarded significant EU funding for a doctoral training project that promotes safe and secure, legally and ethically sustainable use of artificial intelligence.

The University of Turku will host doctoral candidates as part of a new pan-European training network that will advance understanding of how microorganism and host genetics interact.

Between 28 August and 13 September 2024, the doctoral programmes of the University of Turku are inviting applications for approximately fifty fixed-term doctoral researcher positions with employment contracts. In addition, more than 60 doctoral researchers positions in pilot projects funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture will be open for applications this autumn.

Doctoral Researcher Saara Koskela from the Institute of Biomedicine, InFLAMES Research Flagship and Turku Doctoral Programme of Molecular Medicine won the Three Minute Thesis competition of the University of Turku. Koskela will represent the University of Turku in the international 3MT competition organised by the Coimbra Group for European universities. 

The University of Turku is involved in developing a new type of doctoral training through a doctoral education pilot funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture for the period of 2024–2027. The pilot will create a number of new three-year doctoral researcher positions at the University.

There are nearly fifty open vacancies for fixed-term doctoral researcher positions at the University of Turku from 1 January 2023 onwards. The call for applications is open 29 August – 16 September 2022. All current doctoral researchers as well as those who are also applying for the study right for doctoral training can apply for the funded positions.
