Professor Emerita Sirkka Heinonen has been elected as Member of the Board of Directors of the Millennium Project
Professor Emerita Sirkka Heinonen, Head of the Finland Futures Research Centre's Helsinki office and the Chair of the Helsinki Node of the Millennium Project, has been elected as Member of the Board of Directors of the Millennium Project.
There were 14 candidates and only one position open. The election was conducted using the new RealTime Delphi platform developed by the Polish Node’s 4CF The Futures Literacy Company. This election tool enabled transparent, dynamic voting by Node Chairs across the network.
Candidates were nominated by the Millennium Project Nodes worldwide and evaluated on the following criteria: Activity in The Millennium Project, Experience in Futures Research, Fundraising capacity, and Leadership. Sirkka Heinonen received the highest scores in all four criteria in the election.
An extensive career in futures research
Sirkka Heinonen (b. 1953) has long experience and expertise in futures research. Her projects focus on technology foresight, the future of cities and rural areas, information society, sustainable development, ambient intelligence, social media, future work, construction and housing, future of transport and mobility, lifestyles, and philosophy of technology.
After working for over 20 years as a futures researcher at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, and then as a Professor of Futures Research, she is now developing methodologies and conducting research at Finland Futures Research Centre (FFRC), University of Turku. She is also the director of the Helsinki Office of the FFRC.
