This lecture will present the activities of the Irish Folklore Commission, established in 1935, and showcase some of the contents of the National Folklore Collection.

The Cork Folklore Project: engaged digital urban community oral history? (2 t)

Description: This seminar will assess the Cork Folklore Project (http://www.ucc.ie/en/cfp/) as an urban, community-based folklore/oral history centre and examine its digital archiving and dissemination projects.

Whose heritage? Folklore and cultural heritage in the museum/art gallery: two case studies (2 t)

Description: The role of ethnographic interviewing and archival material in two case studies of cultural heritage display will be examined: the Traveller Culture Room in Cork Public Museum and the use of National Folklore Collection material regarding wake games in an art exhibition entitled 'Grin and Bear It: Cruel Humour in Art and Life'.
