I’m a Senior Research Fellow and Head of Unit at Economic Sociology at the University of Turku, Finland. Prior to joining Economic Sociology, I worked as a Senior Researcher at the Research Unit for the Sociology of Education (RUSE), University of Turku. I’ve had a central role in a project advising EU member states on advancing Open Science and renewing research evaluation, led a project investigating societal impact of Open Science in Finland, and as a post doc, studied climate change communications online at VU Amsterdam and analyzed scientific content from social media for altmetrics purposes at the Statistical Cybermetrics Research Group, University of Wolverhampton. I have a PhD from Information Studies at Åbo Akademi University, from where I also received the Title of Docent in Informetrics.
I’m interested to study various current phenomena on the web in general and in social media in particular, mainly using quantitative methods. More specifically this includes, among other things, scholarly communication in digital environments; applicability of altmetrics for research evaluation and/or as a measure of online attention; bibliometrics, open science, and the academic award system; online (social) networks and dissemination patterns of online information; and various cyberthreats. For more information about my current research, see my current projects or contact me.
