Learn How Library Services Are Being Developed
Turku University Library develops services based on feedback from customers, University personnel and other interest groups. Feedback is processed in library´s teams, in different functional units, in the management group and in discipline specific advisory boards.
Library customer satisfaction survey 2024: What do library users want and how is the library responding?
Availability of library services
Library users expressed a desire for more accessible contact channels and extended opening hours.
- We are emphasising contact options in our communications. All library specialists can be reached via the library's main address, library@utu.fi.
- In response to customer feedback, we have significantly extended the self-service opening hours of the library
Library spaces and equipment
Library users requested clearer signage, more diverse workspaces, better acoustics, and improvements in ergonomics, ventilation, and temperature control.
- We are taking into account furniture and space requests in the development of future library spaces. These requests have also been forwarded to the university's facility planning services.
- We are paying attention to acoustics and working to reduce noise disturbances.
- We are developing maps and signs and focusing on digital spatial communication in future library spaces.
Information resources
Library users found the acquisition suggestion form cumbersome, were unfamiliar with how to use certain materials, and reported issues with the functionality of e-resources. There was a demand for more information and support regarding cultural materials and the use of e-books. Additional course books were requested.
- We are streamlining the acquisition suggestion process.
- We are making efforts to increase the visibility of our materials through various channels. Follow, for instance, the Library's Thursday Insights events and news.
- We are developing guidelines and technical solutions.
- We are promoting information about cultural materials in various ways. The Library's Thursday Insights events and news are good sources.
- We are exploring new models for acquiring e-books and informing teaching staff about the availability and limitations of e-books.
- We offer training sessions and guidelines on using e-books and provide feedback to service providers.
Research services
Researchers found the recording of publication data cumbersome and the library's research services unfamiliar. They requested more training, better visibility for research, and support for open access publishing.
- We are improving, as far as possible, the forms, guidelines, and usability for recording publication data. We have improved the importation of publications based on DOI identifiers.
- We are focusing on improving our website, training offerings, and the visibility of guidance materials.
- We are enhancing the visibility of research in cooperation with other stakeholders.
- We are developing support for open publishing. Learn more about the new APC payment tool, ChronosHub.
Communication and training
Library users indicated they were not sufficiently familiar with the library's training offerings or guides. More training sessions for exchange students were also requested.
- We are expanding our training offerings based on our areas of expertise and improving how we communicate about them.
- We are developing the content of our guides and making them easier to find.
- We will offer English-language training sessions open to everyone.
